Karambo coffee, just like the Karira one, comes from the Muyinga area which can be found at the northern, hill-side part of Burundi. The Karira hill is famous not only for its coffee plantations but for the popular Manioc roots too. The farmers choose to grow both to complete their income.
It must be mentioned also, that the name Karira originates from the verb Kurira, which means ‘’to cry’’. The area went through a violent past when the princes who owned the land had a dispute and war broke out.
